Baby Shower Gift Set

This afternoon I attended the baby shower of a dear friend from college who is expecting twin boys!! Even though she lives over an hour away and we really only see each other once a year, she's really the first of my close friends to start a family. I'm super excited and I've been working on her presents for a few weeks now.

She told me she was pregnant by telling me to get my knitting needles ready, so I knew I had to knit something! :) I was going to knit a pair of baby blankets, but at the time I was trying to decide what to make, that just seemed a little too overwhelming because I was working on a million other projects. So, hats it was! (I used the Easy and Basic Baby Hat pattern on Ravelry.) I already had this super cute variegated yarn in orange, aqua, brown, and white. So cute, so boy, and so different from most baby yarns! And then I remembered that I happened to have flannel in the same colors already cut and ready for a quilt I meant to make like three years ago! Perfect!

Since I suddenly had such a cute little coordinating set, I decided to roll with it. I pulled out a bunch of inks - Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Sky, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Chocolate Chip - and a couple stamp sets and went to town! :) Here's what I came up with...

Card Details...
Stamps: Simply Stars (Stampin' Up! - retired), Cuddles and Kisses (Stampin' Up! - retiring, but still available and on sale!), Just Sayin' (Stampin' Up!)
Accessories: White Baker's Twine (Stampin' Up!)
Cardstock: Whisper White and Tangerine Tango (Stampin' Up!)
Inks: Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Sky, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Chocolate Chip (all Stampin' Up!)

Tag details...
Stamps: Simply Stars (Stampin' Up! - retired), Handle with Care and Purls of Wisdom (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Angled Tag Topper Punch (Stampin' Up!), Pool Party Baker's Twine (Stampin' Up! - retired)
Cardstock: Whisper White and Tangerine Tango (Stampin' Up!)
Inks: Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Sky, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Chocolate Chip (all Stampin' Up!)

Pretty cute, if I may say so myself! Unfortunately, I couldn't find wrapping paper that matched. But I did find some that has big polka dots like the one fabric in the quilts, and it has orange and aqua in it - along with a bunch of other colors, but oh well... I'm going to use orange and aqua ribbon. :)

Thanks for stopping by today. I really hope you enjoyed this project - even though it's a little different from what I usually share. Yup, I knit, and sometimes I sew... I've always got some sort of projects going on! :)

Happy Stampin'! :)

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #68

Wahoo look at me go! I'm really on a roll with these PTI challenges, huh? :) I'm really into the "zone" of the Papertrey style, though, and I have to say their inks are some of the best I've ever worked with!

So this week's challenge was to create a pocket card. My first thought was, "a pocket to put a gift card in!" Plus, I was inspired by this card that I pinned from Nichole Heady's blog during the February release countdown. So here's what I came up with. (And I know I've shown you other coffee-themed gift card projects in the past. Please forgive me.)

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you had a lovely holiday weekend!

Papertrey Ink May 2012 Blog Hop

What? Two months in a row? Wow - go me! :) This one was fun and kind of challenging... only using three colors including black and white (so, basically, one color: green), using black to begin with - which I pretty much never do, and mixing patterns. Check out the inspiration photo.

I decided to go ahead and use the new Flipping Out stamp set, which I just got in the mail a couple days ago. So that took care of the pattern mixing for me. It was a little bit of a challenge to get the balance of the colors right, but I like how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope to see you again soon!

Make It Monday #66

Hello! I'm still here! Ok, ok, ok, so I've taken a few days off and I haven't exactly been making a card every day... but I really do have a bunch made that I need to catch you up on. I'm realizing that the hardest part of this isn't to make a card every day, but rather to photograph and post a card every day. I really can't take pictures after dark. I need to rig up a light box. But no matter what, I'm determined to have made 31 cards by May 31st!

So last Monday's Make It Monday challenged us to make felt flowers from PTI border dies. This one was a fun one! :)

So, thanks for sticking with me friends, even though it's the 17th and I've only posted 9 cards. More to come, more to come!

Make It Monday #65

I'm still going strong with my very small collection of PTI stamps - I hope you're not getting bored, but I'm really feeling food about this because I've spent hundreds of dollars on these sets and I've barely used them at all!

In last week's Make It Monday video, Dawn McVey shared a card project that used strips of paper layered into a background. I love this technique, and I've used it a bunch of times. I didn't have PTI patterned paper, like she used, but I dug through my strap basket and pulled out a bunch of papers that coordinated with the Strawberry Patch stamp set. I decided to use the Wine Bottle Tag die (totally my fave!) to make a cute tag for the bottle of wine I gave my mom for Mother's Day.

I'll be back later on to catch up with all the cards I haven't shown you yet :)

Lots of Hearts

Here's my card for Day 7! :) Using last month's PTI Heart-2-Heart #3 die and some of the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan patterned papers.

I thought about just cutting the hearts out of a panel and popping it up off the front of the card with the patterned papers underneath, but then I decided to just die cut the front of the card. I wanted to do some kind of cute treatment on the inside too... Here's a (less than stellar - sorry) photo...

What do you think? Cute? I'm still struggling with CAS cards, but I have to say I'm really pretty happy with this card.  I'm only a couple days into this challenge, and I'm already using a lot of the stamps I bought ages ago and never used, or only used maybe once. I'm kind of obsessed with Papertrey Ink products lately, so I have a feeling you're going to be seeing a lot of those this month! :)

See you tomorrow!

A Card a Day for the Month of May

Hello friends!

I have been so absent lately and I hate it. But the truth is I've really been absent from this whole wonderful card making life! And that just makes me blue. So I've set myself a challenge: Make (at least) one card per day for the entire month of May. There are a lot of changes I'm trying to make in my life right now, and mostly I've been failing miserably, but I'm going to do my darndest to keep up with this!

So, since I decided to do this yesterday, obviously I had a little catching up to do. I'll be back later on with my card for today, but to get started, here are my cards for May 1st through 5th.

(P.S. I am in LOVE with this new Strawberry Patch set from PTI!)

Come on back this evening for today's card - plus! - I've got a couple new videos coming up for you! Phew - It's been a busy weekend! :)

Papertrey Ink April 2012 Blog Hop

Oh my goodness! Where have I been? Well, let's see... Doing a lot of knitting, getting back into our jam making groove, and creating all the decorations for a baby shower in less than a week, for starters! I just haven't really been feeling the card making lately, but this month's PTI blog hop was a great place to start back in! :)

How pretty is this inspiration photo? So springy and fun, and I love the colors! Plus, I've been really impressed with the new PTI inks, so I was psyched to break them out for this challenge.

I had a lot of fun making this card... it's pretty much 100% stamping. It's maybe a little bit busy, but I didn't have any patterned paper that worked with the color scheme. Also, I don't have PTI's Sweet Blush ink yet, so I used Stampin' Up's Blushing Bride.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're having a great week!
