World Cardmaking Day 2013

Happy World Cardmaking Day, my friend! I hope you have fun and exciting crafty plans! :) As seems to be the case pretty much every World Cardmaking Day, I, alas, do not. Farmer's market in the morning, then we're hightailing it up to our "local" (it's about an hour away) annual renaissance fair with some friends. Somehow I seem to have other plans or obligations every year that happen to coincide with World Cardmaking Day - I think I need to plan ahead a little better! But I don't even know when World Cardmaking Day is! Is it always October 5th? The first Saturday of October? Isn't this something I should know?? :-P

Anyway, if you follow my facebook page, you may have seen that, after a crazy-long creativity slump, I recently made three cards in one night after discovering my love for the Magnificent Maple stamp and Sweater Weather DSP combo. As promised, and in honor of World Cardmaking Day, I wanted to share the first two with you. (The third will feature in an upcoming video - Yay!)

I was in charge of a make and take for the monthly meeting of my Stampin' Up! group. I knew I wanted to create a background with the Magnificent Maple stamp, and I thought I wanted to use the amazing new Expressions Thinlits. But after I made this card I decided it was maybe a little too time-consuming for a make and take. Oh, and that little burlap "bow"? I just took a short piece of the burlap ribbon and cinched it in the middle with some linen thread. Then I tied the thread through a button. (I squirted some Tombow Mono multi glue under the button too, for added stability.) Isn't it cute?! :)

And here is the card I ended up bringing for my make and take. Super cute, super easy... Plus, just change up the elements a little and this layout is super versatile!

You know what a fan I am of layered sentiments/focal images and I love the addition of the burlap in this one!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you get some cardmaking in on this great holiday!

Happy Stampin'! :)

Here are the supplies I used on these cards:

World Cardmaking Day 2012

Happy World Cardmaking Day! I hope you're having a great, crafty day!

I didn't have time to get as much done as I'd hoped today because... guess what! I was totally stuck all day! No inspiration whatsoever! But I sat down to make a video anyway, and I actually kind of love the resulting card. Yay! :)

Y'all know how much I love to watercolor, and I just got this stamp set very recently. I was kind of stressing about my creative block, so I figured sitting down and coloring for a while was a good place to start. :)

So anyway, check out the video here, or over on my YouTube channel.

I hope you had - or are having! I know a lot of us do our best crafting at night :) - a fantastic World Cardmaking Day!

Happy Stampin'!

World Card Making Day 2011

Well, I'm a little late, but... Happy World Card Making Day, friends! :)

It's been very busy around here lately... my hubby and I made and decorated over 100 jars of jam for friends' wedding favors, so there hasn't been too much time for card making lately. But I couldn't let World Card Making Day pass by without popping in for a quick share.

This is the card I made for said friends' wedding. The sand dollar stamp is an older A Muse stamp, which I used for the tags on their jam favors. The focal image is a custom stamp from my (sadly, now out of business) LSS - and it actually turned out to be a perfect choice, since they chose a poem called "Beach Chairs" for their ceremony!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you had a fun World Card Making Day!

It should really be renamed World Cardmaking WEEKEND!

All of a sudden, after literally a lifetime of never winning anything, I've been on a winning streak lately! :)  Gina K. Designs just released their October stamp sets, and I was lucky enough to win a set of Lovely Labels 2, illustrated by Nina Brackett. These stamps are gorgeous! And they're designed to coordinate with the new Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 14, 15, and 16! However, if you're like me and can't afford three sets of Nesties, the labels are very easy to cut out freehand, which is what I did on my card.

When I first saw the projects that the GKD Design Team made with these stamps, I immediately thought of letterpress. I stamped the label with Distress Ink on watercolor paper to achieve a similar look. It's a pretty cool effect in real life.

Hope you had a happy Monday!

Happy World Cardmaking Day!

Hope everyone's been having a great World Cardmaking Day today! Have you been productive? I tried, but there are just too many other things to do on days off! :) I had probably 5 or 6 different card ideas swimming around in my head and I so wanted to get them all done. But hey, I got two made! :)

Sorry the photo is so grainy - It was getting dark! :)
Supplies: Cardstock - Stampin' Up (Crumb Cake); Patterned Paper - Crate Paper (Snow Day); Stamps - My Favorite Things (à la modes Miss You a Latte); Dies - My Favorite Things Die-Namics (Jumbo Scallop), Spellbinders (Classic Ovals, Classic Scalloped Ovals, Ribbon Tags Trio); Ribbon - My Favorite Things (Baby Bump Ribbons assortment); Misc - Vivid Taupe dye ink, Copics

Supplies: Stamp - Whiff of Joy (Willow with Christmas Candle); Patterned Paper - Basic Grey (Jovial collection); Ribbon - Pure Luxury by Gina K. Designs; Inks - Distress Ink (Antique Linen), Memento (Tuxedo Black and Cottage Ivy); Letter stickers - Basic Grey (Jovial collection); Misc - We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper, Copic markers

P.S. God Jul means Merry Christmas in Swedish. I love this stamp from Whiff of Joy because my family always celebrates - at least sort of - a holiday called St. Lucia Day, which is sort of the start of the Christmas season in Sweden. Traditionally, the oldest daughter in the family dresses in a white gown and a wreath with candles on her head and delivers breakfast to her family. (We don't do that part.) Remember the American Girl doll Kirsten? She was a Swedish immigrant. Her Christmas outfit is for St. Lucia Day. So anyway, I thought the Swedish sentiment would be perfect for this card. Best I can tell, if you say "Good Yule" the way you think the Swedish Chef would say it, you'll be approximating the pronunciation pretty well. :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
