Start-to-Finish Sunday #42 - Watercolor Wings

Wait a minute. I know what you're thinking. Start-to-Finish Sunday?? Doesn't that mean a video??? Yes! My first STFS video since September! Baby Lyla actually let me get a ton of crafting the other day - including THREE videos! So stay tuned. :)

Today's card features one of the new sets from the 2015 Stampin' Up! catalog. It's called Watercolor Wings. Now, I'm not a big butterfly person, even though they're always really popular. But you guys know how much I like watercoloring, and anything that creates a watercolor look. This set fits that bill. It's made up of multiple images that you layer together to create really stunning butterflies. I love it for a tone-on-tone look with layered shades of the same color, but I'm also really excited to play with this set and try all sorts of color combinations. Which is where this card comes in!

This card was inspired by one that Alison Barclay shared on her blog. I immediately fell in love with this very unique color combination. I never would have thought to put Blushing Bride and Watermelon Wonder with Night of Navy - let alone combining them in one image. But I love it! (I also added a little bit of Smoky Slate.) The sentiment is from a stamp set called Hello Life.

In the video, I show you how to assemble the different stamps in this set to create these beautiful layered watercolor-look butterflies. You can check it out below, or over on my YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC #028: April Challenge - Fresh Beginnings Photo Challenge

Happy April! No foolin' - It's time for another Catherine and Cathy Create Monthly Challenge! :) This month we have a spring inspired photo challenge. It can be anything inspired by this photo...

As I've said in the past, I like to use the monthly group challenge to do something other than a card. So far, it's usually been some sort of 3D item, and this month is no different. Check out my take on the photo...

I decided to make a cute little treat pouch with a coordinating tag. I used one of the mini muslin bags (love these!) - I'd been wanting to try heat embossing on them for ages now!

I cut a square of cardboard to fit inside the bag so the ink wouldn't go through to the back side of the bag, and to help it lie flat. I used blue painter's tape to mask off stripes across the front of the bag, and then I generously pressed my Versamark pad all over the bag. I removed the tape quickly, then sprinkled Pool Party embossing powder over the whole thing. Then I just heat set it like normal! (Wait until you're completely done with the process before you remove the cardstock from inside the bag.) Eh voilĂ ! An adorable striped muslin bag with great texture. I also replaced the plain drawstring with Primrose Petals ribbon to coordinate.

The tag is stamped with the Simple Stems stamp set. The sentiment is from Six Sided Sampler. I used a new-to-me technique - "the filter paper technique" - to get some great texture on the stamped image.  Here's a close-up of the tag.

Isn't that pretty? It sort of looks like the Mulberry Paper that Stampin' Up! used to sell. I'll be doing a video on this technique soon. :)

So that's it from me for today. Make sure you stop by Catherine and Cathy Create to check out all the inspiration from the Design Team... This is one not to be missed, trust me! :) If you're inspired to play along, make sure you link up your project because you might win some Stampin' Up! goodies! Enjoy the rest of your week.

Happy Stampin'! :)

Start-to-Finish Sunday #23 - Dude, You're Welcome Card

If you follow my YouTube channel, you may have seen that I posted an extra video yesterday. My husband made a card using Stampin' Up's "Dude, You're Welcome" kit and filmed the process. So for today's STFS video I decided to use the kit as my inspiration and show a few tips for incorporating the kit contents into your own papercrafting, whether you purchase the kit for a man in your life or you want to grab it for yourself! :)

I used a couple different inspirations in designing this card. One was a recent sketch from Retro Sketches.

You can see I adapted it a little bit, but I really liked the layout! And I was also very inspired by the Color Challenge that Stampin' Up! recently posted.

Basic Gray, Pool Party, Calypso Coral, and Lucky Limeade! These are some of my favorite colors! :)

So go ahead and check out the video below, or over on my YouTube channel. I hope you find some tips for using this kit in your card making! If you'd like to order it for yourself, or the man in your life, visit my website!

Start-to-Finish Sunday #19 - Blogged on Tuesday! :)

I was so excited when I got my Start-to-Finish Sunday video uploaded before 10 pm on Sunday that I totally forgot about the blog post! Oops! Well, I recently got the Collage Curios stamp set from the Spring Catalog that corresponds with the Soda Pop Tops. So I decided to put the two of them together and make a CAS square card. I recently pinned a card by Arielle Gordon that I absolutely loved and I ended up using as the inspiration for this card.

Anyway, not too much more to say about this card, so check out the video below, or over on my YouTube channel.

Hope you're having a great week! Happy Stampin'! :)
