CCC#025: March Challenge - Luck o' the Irish

CCC#025: March Monthly Challenge
Luck o' the Irish

Hey there, and Happy March! Spring is on the way, I promise! :) We've had a very cold and much snowier than usual winter here on the East Coast and we could not be more ready for it!

This month's challenge is to make a project inspired by St. Patrick's Day. It's a fun challenge, but I decided not to take it too literally, since St. Patrick's Day isn't really a big deal for me. (Hey, I'm not Irish, and I don't like beer, what can I say?) My card actually came about sort of accidentally. I was going to use a different color combination, but they I decided to do rainbow colors and gold instead - inspired by the leprachaun's pot of gold at the end of the rainbow :)

I used one stamp set for this card - Perfect Pennants. I used the strip of dots, stamped multiple times on the diagonal in rainbow colors on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. I then adhered that behind the white panel with the heart cut out, using Stampin' Dimensionals. The adorable little hello banner was stamped in Versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder. To make the whole thing pop, I backed it with a Basic Black card base, with a few doodle lines in white gel pen.

This CAS card came together super easily and quickly and would be really easy to mass-produce - even quicker if you used a larger background stamp that could cover the entire cut-out heart in one stamp! You could also make it in any color combination, or swap out what shape Framelit you use to cut the window. Super simple and totally cute!

Make sure you check out Catherine and Cathy Create to see all the other DT projects. And if you play along, be certain to link your project so you can be entered to win some Stampin' Up! goodies! :-D

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC#022: February Challenge - Hearts A-Flutter

It's February! And this month's challenge over at Catherine and Cathy Create is Hearts A-Flutter… Anything and everything hearts and love! :)

If you haven't caught on to my pattern yet, I like do do a project that's not a card for the monthly challenge, since the card challenge is just a few days later. This month, with Valentine's Day around the corner, I thought that a cute little treat holder would be just the ticket!

I am IN LOVE with the new Tag Topper Punches in the Occasions Catalog! The one I used on this project is the Scalloped one - there's also an Angled style that creates more of a traditional shipping tag top. These things are genius! The opening is 2 inches wide, but there's no bottom, so you can make your tag any length you want. So. Many. Possibilities! :-D

To make the treat holder, I started with a piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 2x6.5 inches. Score it at 4 inches and 4.5 inches. Use two 1/8" silver brads to adhere the cardstock into a pocket with a 1/2" flat bottom. Then use the Tag Topper Punch to punch the top of the treat holder. This size is perfect for these mini Crunch bars. This would also work great with Pixie Stix, or lollipops, but you might have to adjust the length of your cardstock and where you score it.

I kept the embellishment simple and easy to mass-produce… Can you say classroom Valentine treat? ;) I used the Just Sayin' stamp set and matching Word Bubbles Framelits (available as a bundle at a 15% discount!) to create a fun little chalkboard-style sentiment. I embossed the sentiment in white on Basic Black cardstock, then used a sponge dauber to lightly smudge on some Whisper White Craft ink to achieve the trendy chalkboard look. A little ribbon, a shiny little pink heart (I covered it in Crystal Effects), and we're good to go!

If you like this idea, but don't need a Valentine's Day treat, here's another version I made with a nautical theme.

I think this would be so cute for a boy's birthday party. I used the new Hello Sailor stamp set for the greeting, and a fresh and fun nautical color scheme.

Now make sure you check out Catherine and Cathy Create to see what the other DT members made. You won't be disappointed! :) Link up your own hearts or Valentine themed project and you might just win some Stampin' Up! treats!

Happy Stampin'! :)

Two Last-Minute Christmas Cards

Who's ready for Christmas?? :-D I'm *thisclose* to having everything ready… but I'm hosting this year so I still have a lot of cooking to do. But in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, I wanted to pop in and share two last-minute card ideas.

This one's super simple and you can pretty much make it with any supplies you have. Living on Cape Cod, I make a lot of beach themed things. But you can, of course, use any stamps you like in any color scheme you like. But the idea is super simple - stamp a repetitive pattern on a cardstock panel, add a little ribbon and a little DSP and you're good! I chose to tear the bottom of the DSP just to add a little interest. Also, in subsequent versions of this card, I used the 2-Way Glue Pen to add a little Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the centers of the sand dollars. Easy peasy! :)

This one shows a sneak peek at one of my favorite new Framelits collections from the upcoming Occasions Catalog. See that Polaroid-style frame? A while back, I showed you how to make something similar with the Squares Framelits, but this frame is one die and it has some awesome embossing details on it. Love. And I also love the other dies in the set… they're perfect for all you scrapbookers!

For this card, I stamped the tree three times without re-inking. You get this great variation of color with only one ink, plus a really nice dimensional effect. And of course I had to add some glitter "snow" to the trees - What's Christmas without some bling?? :) It's hard to see in the photo, but it's really pretty in real life!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you and all your family and friends have a beautiful and merry Christmas, and I wish you all the best in the coming year! Enjoy your holiday and…

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC#017 - Oh Christmas Tree

Hello! Welcome to another Cards Challenge from Catherine and Cathy Create! This month's theme is…
Oh, Christmas Tree

For my card this month, I needed a simple and easy to mass-produce card. I'm having a card making party at my house next weekend - Cocktails and Christmas Cards! Does that sound like fun or what? :) Anyway, most of the ladies who are coming are complete stamping newbies. So I wanted to design a card that is super cute, but had as few elements and techniques as possible. This card would be perfect for making a ton to send to everyone on your Christmas card list!

Hint: I cut the top of the tag into a perfectly rounded shape by tracing one of the Ovals Collection Framelits and cutting it with my Paper Snips. But… let me just say that there's a new product in the upcoming Occasions Catalog that will let you make adorable tags in any size with just one *punch*! :)

Now make sure you check out the other DT members' cards on Catherine and Cathy Create! They are awesome! And if you link up your own Christmas tree card, you might win some Stampin' Up! goodies! Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great weekend :)

Happy Stampin'! :)
