CCC#043: September Monthly Challenge - Primary Colors

CCC#043: September Monthly Challenge
Primary Colors

It's September, and we all know what that means... Back to School! So this month's challenge is inspired by Primary Colors. Think crayons, construction paper, lunch boxes, playground equipment, new sneakers... And make a project inspired by that! And here's a little inspiration photo to get your creative juices flowing even more.

I decided to make a card for this challenge. I will admit, I was more inspired by the back to school theme, and the inspiration photo above. So let me just say that, while I know that primary colors are only blue, red, and yellow, I chose to go with more of a rainbow look, like in the photo.

I was inspired by a card in the recent issue of our demonstrator magazine where they trimmed down one of the dies from the Homemade Holiday Framelits to make arrows. I decided to trim the die cut a little bit further, and make pencils!

I colored the "wood" part of the pencil with one of the Skin Color Blendabilities markers, and drew on the "lead" with a black marker. The colored part is cut with the same die, and then I used the smallest of the Starburst Framelits dies to cut the little zig zag parts at the top. The lines are stamped with one of the stamps from a great new border set called Draw the Line. The stars are punched from the Confetti Star Punch - one of my faves from the Holiday Catalog.

I was thinking this card would be cute to give to a teacher, so I chose the sentiment from one of the new hostess stamp sets. It would maybe be a little more relevant for the end of the school year, but I still thought it was fitting.

Now, make sure you head over to Catherine and Cathy Create to check out the other challenge projects. If you want to play along, make sure you link up your project, because you could win Stampin' Up! goodies! :)

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC#041: August Card Challenge - Happy Birthday!

August 2014 Challenge
Happy Birthday, CCC! :-D

I can't believe it! Catherine & Cathy Create is celebrating it's First Birthday! I have been so honored to be part of the Design Team, and I've had such fun with the challenges. I hope you have too! So, of course, this month's card challenge is all about birthday cards. I rode with the first birthday theme too, and chose to make a birthday card that would be great for your favorite kiddo!

I love this little Kind Koala stamp! It's a single wood-mount stamp. So cute! I modified the image a little for this card. The koala is holding a flower, and there's a sentiment around him, but I didn't want to use those portions of the image. I stamped the koala on watercolor paper and colored him using Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, and Blushing Bride inks and a water brush

I also used Pistachio Pudding, Tangelo Twist, and Crushed Curry inks with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set to create the look of confetti. This koala sure knows how to party!

Instead of the flower, I decided to make some fun birthday banners for the koala to hold. I used a piece of Confetti Celebration DSP, and a cute sentiment from Something to Say

That's it for me for this challenge. But make sure you head on over to Catherine & Cathy Create to see the other Design Team members' cards. Link up your own birthday card and you might win a prize!

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC#020: Cards Challenge - Birthday Bonanza!

January 2014 Cards Challenge: Birthday Bonanza!

Now that Christmas is over, it's time to replenish our stocks of year-round cards :) Hence this month's card challenge: Birthday cards. I decided to use the new Retro Fresh DSP collection again and make a sort-of masculine, sort-of kid card. So… for a young boy maybe? LOL :) Let's just say it's not overtly feminine.

Super super simple! One DSP collection, two stamp sets. A little bit of fussy cutting (stars) and some clear heat embossing (Tangerine Tango banner), but otherwise this card came together really easily.

Now get on over to Catherine and Cathy Create to check out the other DT Members' cards! Go get inspired, then create your own birthday card. Link it up to the challenge post and you might win a new stamp set! What are you waiting for!? :)

Happy Stampin'! :)

CCC Blog Hop: Back to School

Hey there! Welcome to the first Blog Hop with the Catherine and Cathy Create Design Team. If you've come from Christine Wells's blog, you're on the right track. If not head back to the beginning of the hop to make sure you don't miss any of the awesome projects!

I was really lucky growing up in that my mom only worked part-time outside the house during my childhood. She drove me to school and packed my lunch pretty much every day all the way from elementary school through high school. (And yes, you understood that right, I did not have a car in high school. lol.) And even though high school, it wasn't rare for me to find stickers on my sandwich baggie. Since I've been really into tags and 3x3 cards lately, I thought it would be fun to make a little set of lunchbox notes. It took me no time at all to make these three and it would only take minutes more to make a whole slew of them. I love the idea of sending a cute little handmade note of love and encouragement in your child's lunchbox!

I've put a complete supply list for these little cards at the very bottom of this post, so make sure you scroll all the way down. But first, the business of the Blog Hop! How does some Blog Candy sound? The prize is the Label Love stamp set from the new Stampin' Up! catalog. :)

Here's how to enter:
1. You must be a follower of Catherine and Cathy Create. Please follow us via email, Google or Bloglovin'.
2. Leave a comment on each of the DT members' pages by August 11th at 11:50 EST. Each comment counts as one entry.

Christmas in July Week - Day One: Colorful Christmas Card Set

Hello and Welcome to my annual Christmas in July week! Better late than never, I hope! :) Technically, I kicked off the celebration early yesterday with a bonus embossing folder card, but I'm back today to officially start the Christmas festivities.

I wanted to start off this week of projects with something really quick, simple, and super fun. I made a set of two of these little note cards, but you could easily make more. To make these cards so quick and simple, I used the Tag a Bag Kit from the Annual Catalog to create the adorable layered tags. You get enough supplies in the kit for 10 tags like these. I added some Silver Glimmer Paper (not included in the kit) between the small and large tags, but you could just as easily use the Smoky Slate banner stickers that come in the kit. The colors are Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Gumball Green, Smoky Slate, Tangerine Tango, which is what I used to color the images - except I used Pool Party instead of Bermuda Bay because I wanted to have a Pool Party panel for the background of the card. The stamp set is called Color Me Christmas (#131742 wood/#131745 clear) and it has these two images, plus a Christmas tree, Santa, and a reindeer.

What I love about these cards - which measure 3.5x5 inches by the way (you could use the Note Cards and Envelopes - 20 cards and 20 envelopes for only $5.95!) - is that they're so family friendly. These would be great cards for teachers, church youth group leaders, babysitters... especially if you get your kids involved in making them! Little ones can help choose which tags to match together, and bigger kids can work the Big Shot to emboss the backgrounds, or color the images. The color scheme of the tag kit is bright and fun, and the images are quirky and cartoony, so the coloring doesn't have to be perfect.

Don't forget - all the Holiday Catalog items I'll be using this week will be available on Thursday, August 1st when the Holiday Catalog goes live. Hope you enjoyed this project. See you tomorrow!

Happy Stampin'! :)
